The Peppermint Pig is hard candy peppermint, similar in taste to an old fashioned candy cane.
By tradition, at a holiday gathering or after Christmas dinner, the Peppermint Pigs are broken and shared by all in hopes of good fortune for the coming year.
One of America's oldest holiday traditions, the first Peppermint Pigs were made in Saratoga Springs, New York in the 1880s. To this day, they are made nowhere else.
Using replicas of the antique pig molds and the original recipe, Peppermint Pigs are made exclusively by Saratoga Sweets.

From the box- The "Sugarplum", dating back to the great manors and chateaus of Victorian Europe, was mentioned synonymously with "sweetmeats" or "comfits" to represent the unique chocolate delicacies enjoyed by aristocracy during their holiday celebrations. While difficult to obtain in 18th century Europe, West Indian sugar was simmered with fresh picked fruit to a creamy compote then blended with dark chocolate creating a deliciously rich confection. Our Sugarplums are handcrafted following the same time-honored recipes and are as delectable as those enjoyed at Victorian Christmas celebrations long ago. One taste of an authentic Sugarplum and it's easy to understand why they were a child's sweetest dreams in the "Night Before Christmas". To revive an old Victorian tradition, we suggest a foil wrapped Sugarplum placed on someone's pillow before bedtime on Christmas Eve- a delicious way to celebrate this very special night.
